What better way to balance a work trip to New York than by tacking on a beach weekend? Fire Island, a sliver of land just south of Long Island, is an optimal weekend getaway, and I’m grateful to my friend, Mark, for having snagged this home. Cars are not allowed on the island, so one arrives via ferry from Sayville. I was overwhelmed with charm from Sayville to the beautiful beach house.
Not a shabby setting for some light morning reading.
I’ll take a master bedroom with this view, please.
Fire Island’s harbor is incredibly charming. After arriving at the harbor, we shopped for groceries and wine at Pines Liquor that were subsequently delivered to the house, which was a healthy mile’s walk away.
We also didn’t go hungry. I’d been dying to prepare porterhouse steak a la Bobby Flay and found two amazing cuts at the market. (PS - who knew porterhouse was so challenging to find in the Bay? Had to travel to a remote island to find some :). ) Coupled with paprika-roasted organic cauliflower, the steak didn’t disappoint.
